The Club Development - the Learning Centre

The Management Committee is very pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Chichester FE College to re-launch the club's very successful Learning Centre on 31 March, 2007.

Funding for the old Learning Centre ended a few months ago. Funding previously came from Brighton and Hove Football Club who co-ordinated Learning Centres in football clubs in Sussex. Our funding now comes through Chichester FE College. The college has appointed, and provided the salary for, Gary Tearle as 'director' of the Learning Centre.

Roger Nash is the Management Committee member leading on this development assisted by me.

We have agreed a range of courses, many in response to suggestions from the Supporters' Club. Very soon we will be recruiting for the EVENT STEWARDING course that will provide a nationally recognised qualification for stewards. IT IS PLANNED TO BEGIN THIS COURSE IN MAY. It will include FIRST AID, CUSTOMER SERVICES and CONFLICT MANAGEMENT. We hope to offer the FIRST AID course to others not on the Event Stewarding Course, as well as the Customer Services and Conflict Management parts of the course, depending on demand.

We will be recruiting for SKILLS FOR LIFE courses for those who want to improve their numeracy and literacy skills. These will run on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We are recruiting NOW for a March / April start for the first of a series of REFEREES COURSES, beginning with the basis course and moving onto more advanced level training. All training will provide FA approved qualifications and be open to men and women.

FOOTBALL COACHING from the basic Level 1 to more advanced levels will begin in September / October. We will begin with the Level 1 course that is open to anyone involved or wants to be involved in coaching. Once again, women are very welcome.

There will also be courses called HEALTH FOR LIFE that will be about exercise and healthy eating.

Finally, but by no means least, we are recruiting NOW for a course suitable for those of you thinking about following a Higher Education or degree course in sport and recreation. The NATIONAL FE AWARD IN SPORT AND RECREATION will be an access course for those without the normal academic qualifications but who have always wanted to gain a higher education / degree in sport.

If anyone has suggestions for other course, please let Gary, Roger or me know.
