The AA’s recommended route from Bognor to Whitstable 110 miles long and takes around 2¼ hours to drive. Once you’re on the M23, the route is largely motorway driving – via the M25, M26, M20 and M2 – as follows…

1. Head towards Crawley and join the M23 at Pease Pottage;

2. Leave the M23 at Junction 8 and join the M25 anti-clockwise (signposted Dartford)

3. After approx 13 miles, continue forward on the M26

4. After another 10 miles, continue forward on the M20

5. Leave the M20 at junction 7 and join the A249 towards Sittingbourne and Sheerness.

6. Approximately 6 miles later, at roundabout, take the first exit onto the M2 (signposted M2, Dover).

7. Approx 14 miles later, leave the M2 at Junction 7 and continue forward onto the A299 (signposted Margate, Ramsgate).

8. Approx 4½ miles later, branch left onto the A2990, signposted Whitstable.

9. At the next roundabout, take the second exit and continue on the A2990.

10. At the following roundabout, take the first exit onto Borstal Hill (A290, signposted Whitstable).

11. Approx 1 mile later, turn right onto Swanfield Road, then right again into Belmont Road.

Travelling by Public Transport

The journey by train is straightforward enough (max. two changes – at Barnham and London Victoria) but it takes around 3 ¾ hours each way, as in the following example:

Dep Bognor 10.07 Arr Barnham 10.13

Dep Barnham 10.19 Arr Victoria 11.44

Dep Victoria 12.22 Arr Whitstable 13.51

NOTE: If your train into Victoria is on time and you move fairly quickly, you might get the 11.52 to Whitstable, arriving at 13.21.

Whitstable station is less than half a mile from the football ground. Exit the station (unnamed road), turn right and walk down onto Old Bridge Road. Belmont Road is the third turning on your right.
