The AA’s recommended route from Bognor to Sittingbourne is 96 miles long and takes around 2 hours, 4 minutes to drive. The route takes you along four different motorways; the M23, M25, M26 and M20. The recommended route in more detail is:
1. Head towards Crawley and join the M23 at Pease Pottage;
2. Leave the M23 at Junction 8 and join the M25 anti-clockwise (signposted Dartford)
3. After approx 13 miles, continue forward on the M26
4. After another 10 miles, continue forward on the M20
5. Leave the M20 at junction 7 and join the A249 towards Sittingbourne and Sheerness.
6. Approximately 8 miles later, branch left onto the A2 (signposted Rainham, Sittingbourne, Crematorium)
7. Continue on the A2 for another three miles, following signs for Faversham.
8. At Traffic signals, turn left onto Murston Road.
9. Continue forward into Church Road and the entrance to the ground is ahead on your left.
IMPORTANT NOTE: According to the SFC website, “Sittingbourne FC now play on the Lower Pitch and NOT in the main stadium. Go immediately left once through the gates. Once in the car park follow the Sittingbourne FC sign under the barrier and down either the slope to your left or right to the lower car park.
You can also park in the car park up the slope if the lower one is full.
The ground is facing you with the main turnstiles to the middle and the players and officials entrance to the right.. . PLEASE DO NOT PARK BY ANY ENTRANCES as these may be needed for emergency vehicle access.”
Travelling by Public Transport
The journey by train is straightforward enough but takes well over three hours each way as it involves you going into London and back out again. For example:
Dep Bognor 10.39 Arr Barnham 10.45
Dep Barnham 10.49 Arr Victoria 1216
Dep Victoria 12.52 Arr Sittingbourne1403
NOTE: If your train into Victoria is on time and you move quickly enough, you might get the 12.22 to Sittingbourne, arriving at 13.30. Just think of that; an extra half hour in Sittingbourne!
According to the SFC website, it is a 20 - 25 minute walk from the station to the ground. Alternatively, taxis are available at the station. (SFC recommends Cab-It; Tel: 01795 436666). Walkers should “turn left out of the railway station into St Michael's Road. Pass the fire station on your left and turn left into Crown Quay Lane (at the first set of traffic lights). Go under the railway bridge and up to a roundabout where you turn right into Eurolink Way. Turn left at the end of this road into Castle Road. After half a mile, turn right into Dolphin Road, turn left into Church Road. Central Park is about half a mile own Church Road on the right hand side.”
