Travelling by car

The AA’s recommended route from Bognor to east Dulwich is 72 miles long and takes two hours and 5 minutes. The route takes you up the A23 / M23 / A23 through Croydon towards Central London, then via Streatham, Brixton and Camberwell. To view that route in full, visit the AA website (address below).

The following route is slightly different, using the A205 South Circular Road to cut out Brixton and Camberwell and so save drivers time in the latter stages of the journey.

1. Head for London up the A23 and M23;

2. Do not leave at Junction 8 to join the M25. Instead, continue on the M23 until it becomes the A23 once again and takes you through Croydon and into South London.

3. Approx 67 miles into your journey, you will find yourself on Streatham High Road; a busy shopping area strung out along a dual carriageway.

4. A little further ahead, you will see the Crown and Sceptre pub on your left. The pub sits at a major crossroads controlled by traffic lights. Turn right here, onto the A205 South Circular Road.

5. Continue forward on the A205 South Circular for approx 2.5 miles until you come to another huge pub - this time a Harvester called the Grove Tavern – on your left hand side. Just past the pub is a T-Junction, controlled by traffic signals. Turn left here, onto Lordship Lane.

6. Continue on Lordship Lane, through the shops of East Dulwich. At the mini-roundabout (aka Goose Green) take the first exit, bearing left up Dog Kennel Hill.

7. Approx 200 yards later, you will see the entrance to a big Sainsbury’s store on your left. Turn into that entrance but then, instead of turning right and entering the Sainsbury’s car park, bear left into the Dulwich Hamlet car park.

Travelling by Public Transport

The railway station nearest to the ground (just 200 yards away) is East Dulwich. There are lots of ways to get there by train from Bognor, the quickest of which goes via Three Bridges and London Bridge, thus:

Dep Bognor 12.07 Arr Barnham 12.13

Dep Barnham 12.19 Arr Three Bridges13.02

Dep Three Bridges 13.12 Arr London Bridge 13.47

Dep London Bridge14.03 Arr E. Dulwich 14.15

The ground is less than 5 minutes walk from the station. Turn left out of the station and walk up the hill. On your left you will see a small public garden; take the footpath across the gardens and the ground is directly ahead of you.
