Travelling by car
According to the AA, the 65 mile journey from Bognor to Thornton Heath should take you around an hour and three-quarters.
1. From Bognor, take the A29 as far as the Whiteways Lodge roundabout, at the top of Bury Hill.
2. Leave the A29 here and take the second exit (B2139, Houghton Hill). Follow this road to it’s end, at the T-junction with the A283 in Storrington.
3. Turn right onto the A283 and drive through Storrington and Sullington to Washington.
L4. At the Washington roundabout, turn left onto the A24, signposted Horsham and London.
5. At Buck Barn crossroads, turn right onto the A272 (Cowfold and Haywards Heath).
6. Approx 6½ miles later, join the A23 (later M23) and head towards London.
7. Continue to the end of the M23, where it becomes the A23 again.
8. Continue on the A23, following signs for Central London. Your route will take you along Purley Way.
9. Approx 3¼ miles along Purley Way (still on the A23) you will come to the Lombard roundabout. Take the second exit (still the A23), then
10. Half a mile later, turn left onto Silverleigh Road, then left onto Trafford Road.
11 Approx ¼ mile later, continue forward into Mayfield Road. The stadium is ahead of you and the club has its own car park.
Travelling by Public Transport
The railway stations nearest the ground are Thornton Heath and Norbury but, according to the CAFC website, both are a good 15-minute walk away. A better bet, they say, is to travel by tram. So…
Take the train from Bognor to East Croydon. (You would have to do this anyway, to catch a connection to Thornton Heath or Norbury). Direct services take around 1½

Leave the train at East Croydon and head for the tram stop in front of the station. You want the Wimbledon service. Alight six stops later at Therapia Lane. Walk down Therapia Lane and, at the bottom, cross over Mitcham Road and head down Aurelia Road, which is almost directly opposite. At the bottom, turn left down Aurelia Gardens. This turns into an alley; walk through the alley and the stadium is on your right.
For the return journey, simply retrace your steps. The last trains home leave East Croydon at 22.34 and 22.48; both get you back to Bognor at 00.15!
