Travelling by car

The AA’s recommended route from Bognor to Chipstead is 58 miles long and takes around an hour and a half. The route takes you up the M23 and into the southern suburbs of Croydon. In detail, the route is:

1. Join the A24 at Findon;

2. At Buck Barn crossroads, take the A272 towards Cowfold and Haywards Heath;

3. Join the A23 (later M23) and head towards London.

4. Continue to the end of the M23, where it becomes the A23 again.

5. About a mile later, at traffic signals, turn left onto Star Lane.

6. Approx. half a mile later, continue ahead into Hogscross Lane;

7. Half a mile later, bear right, then turn right onto the High Road. The ground is a few hundred yards on your right.

Travelling by Public Transport

The railway station nearest the football ground is Chipstead station. However, as the CFC website points out, the station is still almost 1.5 miles away, and the walk takes you up a steep hill and along narrow roads with no pavements. There is no cab office.

A better bet, they say, is to travel to Coulsdon South (3 miles away) – a shorter journey and there is a cab office on the station forecourt where you can not only get a taxi to the ground but also book a return cab.

Whichever route you decide to take, you start by taking the Victoria train from Bognor. For Chipstead, change at East Croydon. For Coulsdon South, change at Redhill, as in the following example:
