Worthing 0 Bognor 2

7.30 am -- 20th January 2010

Two goals in the final 15 minutes gave the Rocks their second cup win at Worthing this season – and put them into the last eight of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Just as it looked like extra-time and perhaps a replay would be needed, Matt Wood and Gary Norgate scored to send the Rocks through, and the traveling fans home happy

Worthing had a couple of early chances with ex-Rocks Ben Johnson seeing a free-kick cleared by Mickey Demetriou and then flashing a shot over the bar after stealing possession from James Crane.

Worthing also had a goal disallowed before the Rocks started trying to find their feet.

Norgate's shot was deflected goalwards by a defender and home keeper Alan Mansfield had to turn it round the post for a corner.

Then Sam Tucknott crossed for Norgate, whose shot was well-saved by Norgate.

The Rocks were disrupted on 23 minutes when skipper Michael Birmingham had to be helped off with a leg injury – possibly a recurrence of the calf problem which affected him earlier in the season.

Patton blasted a shot over the bar for Worthing then Denton tried his luck from 35 yards without success.

Five minutes before the break, Tim Bond couldn't direct his header goal wards from Charlie Oatway's corner.

Half-time 0-0

Oatway was booked eight minutes into the second half after a scuffle with Jamie Brotherton, who escaped unpunished.

Andrej Pernecky saved from Brotherton before both sides made a change, the Rocks bringing on Dan Bogard for Tucknott.

Crane sent a long-range header over the bar from a free-kick but then the Rocks got the breakthrough with 13 minutes to go.

Demetriou crossed after Jason Prior played him clear down the left and Wood collected his cross, turned and fired low past Mansfield.

The Worthing keeper was booked six minutes later after rushing out of his box and fouling Prior out wide.

Two Worthing substitutions didn't have the effect of rescuing the tie for the Rebels as Norgate glanced home a header to make it 2-0 with three minutes to go when Crane swung in a free-kick from the right.

The win delighted the noisy band of Rocks fans who had made the trip, with the injury to Birmingham the only thing to cast a shadow over their second cup win at the home of their neighbors this season.
