Kingstonian 1 Bognor 3

7pm -- 28-12-09

The Rocks move off the bottom of the Ryman premier table with their best result of the season - a 3-1 win away to promotion-hunting Kingstonian.

Two goals from Jason Prior and a Michael Birmingham penalty gave Darin Killpartrick's men - roared on by a large and noisy band of fans - a famous win in south London.

The Rocks started brightly and went ahead just seven minutes

Clark started a neat passing move and switched play to Richard Hudson on the right, and his cross was perfect for Prior to head in from ten yards.

The hosts equalised ten minutes later through the league's top scorer Bobby Traynor, with his 16th of the season. Initially, Andrej Pernecky made a great save from Traynor, turning a shot behind for a corner, but when the kick came in, the keeper failed to gather it and Traynor lashed it in with the aid of a slight deflection.

There followed ten minutes of Kingstonian pressure, but Bognor stood firm.

It was almost 2-1 to the Rocks on the half-hour. Clark's tremendous run down the left saw him beat three men and his cross found Prior, whose shot was just wide.

Three minutes later they did score. Hudson's run was ended by a foul in the box and although Birmingham's penalty was saved, the home keeper was well off his line and the ref ordered a retake, from which the Rocks skipper made no mistake.

Kingstonian came back strongly again and Traynor had the ball in the net five minutes before the break, but he had clearly fouled Micky Demetriou and the free-kick was Bognor's.

The travelling support were in great voice, backed superbly by the noisy Rocks band.

The Rocks lost Lewis Ide and Clark - after a superb first half - to injury either side of the break but didn't let that disrupt them from their excellent passing football.

They were well-marshalled in the centre by Birmingham, while Demetriou and Tim Bond were faultless in the centre. Young loan defender Grant Hall was also superb at full-back, playing in place of illness victim James Crane.

On the hour, Dan Bogard whistled a shot just over the bar before Kingstonian tried to exert more pressure on the visitors.

But the Rocks soaked up what the third-placed home team could throw at them - then broke magnificiently for a third goal.

Sub Charlie Oatway played a perfect pass for Prior to run on to from the halfway line and he drew the keeper before lobbing him from 20 yards with 16 minutes left.

Kingstonian had plenty of possession after that but when they did breach the Rocks defence, Pernecky had a safe pair of hands.

Birmingham almost made it 4-1 late on but his shot flew narrowly over.

Sarah Warwick was among the Rocks fans at the game and says: "It's awesome. We were all over them and our fans are in fantastic voice."

The Rocks leapfrog both Waltham Abbey and Billericay to go 20th in the table - their highest position for months. Both those sides play on Tuesday night.
