IN MEMORY OF BEN STEPPEL

Hayes & Yeading 0 Bognor Regis 2

26-04-08

Dan Beck and Chris Breach got the goals that gave Bognor a winning end to 2007-08 at Hayes & Yeading.

Bognor began their final match of the season playing some attractive passing football.

After just five minutes, Mark Knee's shot was tipped over for the first corner of the game following an excellent run by Chris Greatwich.

Minutes later, Scott Chamberlain's free-kick curled around the home side's defensive wall but just over the bar.

Knee then somehow contrived to miss an open goal from three yards as Bognor piled on the pressure.

Joel Ledgister almost opened the scoring for Hayes with a shot from 20 yards as the home side began to come into the game.

Hayes were clearly gaining in confidence and Ram Marwa should have scored when he was first to the ball in the six-yard box, but his snap shot went inches wide.

After 30 minutes, Joel Ledgister had a wonderful opportunity when he out-paced the Rocks' defence but blasted over the bar with only Craig Stoner to beat.

Minutes later, the same player found himself in an identical position but this time hit the bar and the ball was cleared.

Bognor deservedly took the lead through Dan Beck after 36 minutes following an excellent run down the right by Greatwich and an excellent pass by Knee.

Half-time: Hayes and Yeading 0 Bognor 1

Hayes came straight out of the blocks at the beginning of the second half and within a minute Craig Stoner had to produce an excellent save from Stafford Palmer.

Moments later, Ledgister hit the woodwork for the second time.

Bognor weathered the storm and soon began to play with the confidence they had displayed in the first half.

With 57 minutes on the clock, Duncan Jupp sent in an inch-perfect cross from the right and defensive partner Chris Breach blasted the ball in for Bognor's second.

The Rocks were looking dangerous going forward, with Beck and Greatwich controlling the midfield.

Breach looked very solid in the centre of Bognor's defence and Stoner's excellent diving save at the feet of Palmer saved what looked to be a certain goal and moments later Bognor almost made it 3-0 thanks to Wallis-Tayler's impressive run.
